Summary
Akashinga protects large-scale wilderness landscapes by empowering local communities and female rangers. While existing efforts have been successful in reducing illegal wildlife trade (IWT), capacity building is necessary both within and outside of communities to maximise anti-poaching impact, while protecting local livelihoods. This project follows a two-pronged approach: 1) building leadership capacity of Akashinga teams to reduce IWT, and 2) strengthening the capacity of Akashinga community teams to protect alternative livelihoods through human-wildlife conflict (HWC) mitigation initiatives.
