Summary
This scoping visit will specifically enable UK/Tanzanian collaborators to:
• identify priority research, conservation, and financial needs of institutions involved in the management and research of the species and its habitats.;
• define specific collaborator roles based on shared and unique expertise;
• identify and map additional stakeholders to be engaged in community-based conservation activities;
• meet and consult with Tanzanian Government agencies including: the Tanzania Forest Service, the Wildlife Division, the TANAPA and TAWIRI;
• Meet with the Zoology Departmental Head at the University of Dar es Salaam to identify training strategies and aspiring conservationists to receive EDGE Fellowships (ongoing training/funding) for conservation research;
• identify field sites, appropriate survey methods; and plan research activities to implement the best scientific knowledge to inform the conservation activities and decision makers;
• develop a Memorandum of Understanding;
• plan for the production of a species conservation strategy.
