Summary
We propose a Darwin Initiative to train Tanzanian scientists and parataxonomists in species identification, underwater quantitative mapping and basic genetic techniques to enable better monitoring of changes in LT biodiversity. Our collaboration with aquatic biologists at the University of DarEsSalaam (UDSM) and Tanzanian Fisheries Research Institute (TAFIRI) will produce taxonomic inventories, species distribution maps and GIS analyses, and assessment of genetic diversity for select major taxa in the LT benthos.
An innovative approach to agriculture in Madagascar enables communities to build climate-adaptive food systems while reducing pressure on biodiversity.
