Summary
Natural Resource Management (NRM) in Africa is centralised and conditioned by policies of colonial and postcolonial eras. Community Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM) has differentially “devolved” responsibilities which do not empower people-centred approaches to deliver conservation and development. This project will pilot a tool in southern Africa that monitors the enabling conditions for community-led conservation, charting gaps and understanding results. Evidence from analysis of results will influence policy and practice amongst local CBNRM structures and central governments overseeing CBNRM.
