Summary
The Net Free Seas project is a successfully trialled and implemented community-based approach to the collection and recycling of abandoned, lost, discarded fishing gear (ALDFG) or ghost gear to prevent them from leaking into and damaging coastal and marine environments. The project also provides tangible financial benefits to participating coastal communities by encouraging individuals to actively participate in the collection, management and recycling of ALDFG. The project also aims to drive national, regional, and international advocacy efforts to address ALDFG.
