Summary
To create biodiversity documentation systems for the living plant collections of botanic gardens and to train staff in their use. The aim of this project is to create biodiversity documentation systems for the living plant collections of botanic gardens of the former Soviet Union (FSU) and train botanic staff in their use. Computer software in Russian will be prepared, training courses held and several model systems established to help strengthen the network of botanic gardens in that region and enhance their capacity to undertake biodiversity conservation.
A coordination & monitoring centre established linking 50 botanic gardens www.bgci.org.ru ; support service established; new software and key texts in Russian produced for managing biodiversity collections; over 300 people trained in information systems and biodiversity documentation; 3 model computer system set up in FSU organisations; 75 Institutions received computer software.
