Summary
This project will address unsustainable fishing on lakes in the Bas-Ogooué region and strengthen the livelihoods of people dependent on fisheries for income and food. By empowering communities to organise and better manage lake fisheries while reducing human-elephant conflict, they will generate more income and food from fishing and farming while protecting biodiversity. This will be accomplished by establishing fisher cooperatives, collecting fisheries data, developing fisheries management plans, establishing electric elephant fences and organizing environmental education programs for youth.
