FUNDING SCHEME Covid19 Rapid Response
VALUE £20,400
WHERE Montserrat
Summary
The loss of tourism caused by COVID-19 has stopped sponsored dive trips to Montserrat's coral reefs where it was regular practice to remove invasive lionfish from deeper water habitats. Lionfish have a high impact on indigenous species and can devastate valuable food-stock resources and ecosystems.
This project will create an impactful and sustainable programme through:
• Resumed regular site visits,
• Training of capable divers,
• Providing required equipment,
• Implementing an outreach program which promotes use of the fish and establishes a customer-base.
