Summary
To study the sustainability of wildlife and rattan trades in North Sulawesi, quantifying the offtake, its effects on traded species and the effects of policies to make the trade more sustainable and profitable.
6 field assistants trained; 10 MPI employees trained; 50 rattan collectors trained in financial planning; 3 rattan co-operatives formed; publicity material (video, banners, T-shirts). Model developed and implemented; report presented to the Indonesian Government; 1 MSc student Masters thesis; 15 Forest Department officials trained in wildlife habitat protection operations; 30 forest guards trained in conducting checkpoints; 2 Indonesian graduates trained in research methodology; 2 papers accepted/published; 2 book chapters accepted.
