Summary

This scoping award will be used to provide an immediate assessment of the marine aquarium fishery in the Philippines to establish the management status quo, the sources of data on historical and current collection of ornamental stocks. It will also assess any management or planned management of the industry, as well as the aspirations of managers and stakeholders which could shape the main project application for a full in-country assessment of the marine aquarium trade. The primary objectives of the scoping award will be to; • Identify geographical areas in which the marine aquarium trade exists but where governance is absent; • Identify any geographical areas where the marine aquarium trade exists and is actively managed or is supplemented with aquaculture initiatives; • Identify further contacts in the form of local project partners or participating stakeholders, including local fishers whom could substantially validate any evaluations of data records on marine ornamental collection. • Review relevant national and international legislation.
