The proposed award would enable Professor Sheppard to travel to the site and advise MNP on the best methods to survey and monitor the marine and coastal habitats in order to achieve robust scientific evidence that can subsequently be used to evolve ecologically effective zoning and management plans for the regions coastline. In particular, Professor Sheppard will help with the zoning design and long-term monitoring of the MPA, and help to develop a comprehensive plan suitable for the development and community management of the marine extension over the next three years. A detailed outline for the marine protected area, including monitoring standards, specifics on costs, timings, potential obstacles, next steps and other variables will be discussed.
