Voahirana is a Malagasy conservation scientist with exceptional potential. The fellowship
will give her an international perspective on conservation while honing her ability in
research design and writing academic quality English. Voahirana will return to
Madagasikara Voakajy, a conservation NGO which grew out of previous Darwin grants,
where her new skills will be essential as this excellent organisation blossoms to full
independence. Her dissertation will address priorities in bushmeat research identified in a
current Darwin grant and will be co-funded by the National Zoo of Wales. Their involvement
will improve the research and cement the emerging link with MV.
