We are delighted to announce that a new Chair to the Darwin Expert Committee has been appointed. The new Chair will be Professor Stephen Blackmore, currently the Regius Keeper (Chief Executive) of the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh, and Her Majesty’s Botanist in Scotland.
The number and quality of the applications we received for the Chair’s post was impressive, which reinforces the high esteem in which the Darwin Initiative is held. The selection panel therefore had a difficult task in deciding whom to appoint from among the very high calibre candidates we interviewed.
Stephen will bring to the role of Chair an impressive track record in the field of biodiversity, and a huge enthusiasm to champion the Darwin Initiative in its next phase. He has extensive experience of chairing high-level committees responsible for strategic and funding priorities, as well as significant scientific and professional experience relevant to the multilateral environmental agreements on which the Darwin Initiative focuses. Attached is a short biography.
Professor David Macdonald will remain as Chair of the Committee until the conclusion of Round 19 applications and has been an invaluable asset to the Darwin Initiative throughout his term as Chair. We will be sorry to lose his guidance and enthusiasm on the Darwin Initiative.
