Purpose: To build legal and institutional capacity in the Pacific Island States to give effect to the provisions of the Biodiversity Convention, specifically on certain core obligations that require substantial work in order to effect implementation at national level.
Outputs: 14 participants of 1 week workshop Yr. 1; training pack; articles; press releases; 5 draft working papers prepared for workshop participants; 44 participants of a 1 week workshop held in Nadi, Fiji, Yr. 2; Reports on Nadi workshop COP 5 included in newsletters and distributed on SPREP website, http://www.sidsnet.org/pacific/sprep; Information pack; 3 radio broadcasts; CBD representative attended workshop; Additional funding support raised; The Nadi Statement used by PIC delegations at COP 4 in Bratislava. Nadi workshop/outputs enhanced PIC co-ordination at COP 4 and provided impetus for further sub-regional collaboration on CBD.
