Purpose: DESCRIPTION: The project will build on existing work in empowering communities across the elephant range to implement and monitor a successful, “war-tested”, model of community-based natural resource management that protects elephants through halting and reversing degradation, habitat (and biodiversity) loss; while improving livelihoods and several types of human security. OUTCOME: Mutually beneficial human-elephant coexistence in Malian Gourma sustained through deeper deployment of locally adapted sustainable resource management systems that protect habitats, elephants and biodiversity, enhance local livelihoods, and engender security.
