Purpose: The final outcome will be the reduced deforestation of rainforests in Caribbean Guatemala, achieved through: the completion and improved management of a Regional Network of Protected Areas; the provision of direct financial incentives for the protection and restoration of 5,000 ha of high biodiversity community owned forests, ensuring over 137,000 of new income per year (over five years) for 500 families (and allocated as counterpart funding to the project by the National Forestry Institute); the development and validation of a REDD “Project Document”, including a FPIC process; and the implementation of a communication campaign on the values of biodiversity.
